The arêtes de poisson of Lyon form an enigmatic underground network located beneath the Croix-Rousse hill. Composed of main galleries and branching passages that resemble a fish skeleton, this unique structure remains of uncertain purpose, although several hypotheses suggest uses related to water management or transport.
In 2022, its enhancement was selected by citizens as part of Lyon’s first participatory budget, paving the way for the development of a digital visit accessible to all.
Mazedia collaborated with the Archaeology Department of the City of Lyon to design this virtual visit system and to produce all content supporting the interpretation of this mysterious archaeological site.

The dedicated website offers access to points of interest contextualised both in the present day and in antiquity.

A dedicated virtual lighting design was developed to reveal the volumes, depth and structural geometry of the underground network.

A 3D laser survey enabled the creation of a highly precise digital twin that forms the basis of the immersive experience.

Interviews with specialists shed light on key questions concerning the discovery, construction hypotheses and history of the galleries.

Thematic animations explain the key stages in the scientific understanding of the site and can be triggered freely by visitors during their virtual exploration.

Particular attention was paid to the accessibility of the digital platform to ensure inclusive navigation and easy consultation of all content.
