The Maillezais Abbey has a prestigious history, marking the southern Vendée region with its spiritual and architectural influence.
Mazedia, in partnership with MG Design, designed a digital system that includes a mobile tour combining historical and archaeological information. It features several augmented reality viewing points using cardboard viewers provided to visitors.
This allows them to immerse themselves in the spectacular abbey/cathedral, right on the site where its ruins stand.
The application can be downloaded to a visitor’s smartphone and includes a guided discovery tour with a mix of augmented reality and video and audio interpretation.
Thanks to a geolocated map, visitors can view the invisible: objects excavated from the site or the grand cathedral in augmented reality.
The abbey has been 3D modeled, both its interior and exterior, at different historical periods.
By using a provided cardboard viewer, visitors can experience the building in relief.
