Located in Héron, in the heart of Wallonia in Belgium, the Moulin de Ferrières is an exceptional heritage site whose origins date back to the 12th century.
Today a dynamic interpretation centre, this still-operational watermill has, for generations, passed on the skills and know-how associated with flour production and traditional bread making.
As part of the inauguration of a brand-new visitor experience designed by Kascen, Mazedia delivered the full range of audiovisual and digital installations.
This collaboration aimed to help visitors understand, feel, and experience the miller’s essential gestures, where each step—from grain to bread—tells a story of transformation through a constant dialogue between narrative and scenography.

In partnership with Sherpah Vidéo Project, we produced a series of audiovisual contents highlighting the different stages of bread production, complemented by an immersive film with a poetic and contemplative tone.

Interviews filmed on site bring the living memory of the place to life, while a soundscape immerses visitors in the mill’s unique acoustic atmosphere.

The visitor journey comes alive through optical theatre scenes combining live acting and motion design to revisit the key stages of grain transformation.

This approach is enhanced by an interactive projection, where the combination of animation and physical interaction invites visitors to explore the content in an active and sensory way.

Interactive modules punctuate the journey, structuring the visit while offering an experience that is both educational and engaging. At the end of the visit, an interactive guestbook allows visitors to share their experience and leave a digital trace of their passage, strengthening the connection between the site and its audience.

To ensure accessibility for all and extend the experience beyond the mill’s walls, we also developed a virtual tour enriched with a wide range of multimedia content.
