The Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine presented the exhibition Métro in 2024, tracing the history of the Paris metro from its creation in the early twentieth century to the major construction works of Greater Paris.

The institution commissioned Mazedia to design the immersive introductory projection, intended to place a century of engineering works in dialogue with the current transformations of the transport network.

This 19-metre-circumference circular projection, complemented by a 4-metre backdrop, juxtaposes archival footage with contemporary images of the Grand Paris construction sites through a dynamic edit enhanced with graphic effects and sound design that accentuates the tempo of the images.

A scenographic device positions a small heap of rubble in the foreground before an opening where older black-and-white footage is shown at a slower pace, creating a striking contrast with the energy of today’s works.

The projection also incorporates cartographic elements showing how the Grand Paris project will benefit residents by bringing territories closer together.

To improve the readability of the data, points of interest first regroup into symbolic motifs – culture, sport, mobility – before dispersing to form the final map of the locations involved.
